After being closed due to food poisoning, Marwako Fast Food will soon reopen.
After being closed for months due to claims of food contamination, the East Legon branch of Marwako Fast Food is about to reopen to the public.
According to a statement released by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) on Friday, the fast food restaurant reopened as a result of the FDA's satisfaction with the company's execution of remedial preventative measures (CAPA).
In the announcement, it was stated that "The Food and Drugs Authority hereby lifts the suspension of catering services put on your facility in East Legon."
In May, Marwako Fast Food became a trending topic on Twitter for three days when a number of Twitter users reported experiencing food illness as a result of receiving tainted food.
A user named Edward Elohim posted about his illness after eating at the restaurant that sparked the complaints. After that, the East Legon and Abelenkpe locations of the restaurant were shut down by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
"The FDA has taken note of public concerns regarding the alleged food poisoning at the Marwarko Restaurant's East Legon Branch.
The FDA tweeted, "We have shut down the eatery and, together with other pertinent authorities, initiated investigations."
The FDA subsequently closed the East Legon branch where the purported food poisoning incident occurred, and the Authority provided Marwako with corrective preventive actions (CAPA) to carry out.
The FDA reports that "it is happy with the progress made in the implementation of the CAPA to avert any future cases of food poisoning" two months after the CAPA was put into place.
Although the Authority said it "would be performing follow-up inspections in line with dates set in your CAPA to guarantee complete compliance to the code of sanitary standards," the East Legon branch of Marwako is anticipated to reopen to consumers shortly.
