Southampton are closing in on a deal worth around £10m for Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo after he refused to sign a new deal with Scotish side Rangers.
On Tuesday July 5, Sportsmail reported that Southampton were hoping to fend off competition from the likes of Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest and Fulham to land the 25-year-old.
Talks have accelerated with the two clubs now on the verge of an agreement on a deal in the region of £10m, including add-ons.
Aribo, who moved to Ibrox from Charlton in 2019, has a £10m release clause in his Rangers contract.
That deal has just one year left to run but the Scottish side were hoping to secure a package that was equal to his clause value.
Aribo enjoyed an excellent season in which he was one of Rangers’ most used players, making 57 appearances, scoring nine times including in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
