In spite of Matthijs de Ligt's decision to sign with Bayern Munich, Chelsea has three alternative transfer targets
Despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, according to Christian Falk, Matthijs de Ligt would want to concentrate on negotiations with Bayern Munich for the time being. It's hardly the best news to hear for Chelsea supporters anywhere, as many would have expected the Blues to announce him at any moment. It appears that the Dutch international is paying close attention to the Germans.
On a price for de Ligt, Chelsea and Juventus were almost in agreement. Juventus is prepared to take £70 million after lowering their initial £100 million assessment on the 22-year-old. The Blues were reportedly offering to pay £10–15 million less than Juventus. Reports, however, indicate that they are prepared to pay the £70 million.
The cost significantly reduces Todd Boehly's planned transfer window expenditure of £200 million.
Thomas Tuchel will need to come up with a backup plan because de Ligt currently only wants to speak with Bayern Munich. This summer, there are still a few possibilities you can choose from. Options include Levi Colwill from within the company, Presnel Kimpembe, and Kalidou Koulibaly.
Kimpembe, Presnel
According to journalist Christian Falk, Chelsea has added Matthijs de Ligt and Presnel Kimpembe to their list of desired defenders. It shouldn't come as a surprise because Chelsea has already been linked to the Frenchman. L'Equipe claimed in 2017 that Kimpembe was open to leaving PSG in search of a fresh challenge.
L'Équipe reports that if a good offer for the player comes in, Paris St. Germain won't keep the French international. With PSG interested in Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan, a departure for Kimpembe appears to be more than possible. According to reports, Thomas Tuchel is also working to facilitate this transfer. With Tuchel's blessing added to the equation, their reunion might happen very soon.
