Chicago Man is Detained in the Shootings of a US Marshal and a Police Dog

According to police, a Chicago man has been charged in connection with the shootings of a U.S. marshal and his police dog who were injured while executing an arrest warrant.

According to the Chicago Police Department, Tarrion Johnson, 19, is charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery with a firearm, aggravated animal cruelty, and harm to a police animal.

According to the department, Johnson had a court appearance on Saturday for his bond. It was unclear right away if he has a lawyer who could speak for him.

According to the police, Johnson was taken into custody on Thursday, not long after it was claimed that he had shot a member of the U.S. Marshals Service's fugitive apprehension team and his federal police dog. Authorities at the time stated that two gunmen had been captured, but Chicago police made no mention of the second individual while charging Johnson on Saturday.

Police reported that a Chicago police engaged in brief exchange of fire during the shooting, missing everyone.

According to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford, the federal marshal hurried the dog to a vet clinic following Thursday's shooting.

When the marshal realized he had been shot in the hand, an ambulance was dispatched; however, the marshal chose not to be taken to the hospital, according to Langford, who spoke to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The police dog was reportedly in an emergency veterinary hospital's intensive care unit on Friday, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
