According to Purefmonline.com, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Ghana's Minister of Education, has urged the teacher unions on strike, who are asking for a 20% Cost of Living Allowance (CoLA), to return to the classrooms while talks with their leadership body continue.

Following the government's refusal to accede to their requests last week, teacher unions across the nation went on an indefinite strike, despite the government's prior assurances that it would have done so by the end of the day on Thursday, June 30, 2022.

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), and Teachers and Educational Workers Union are among the combined teacher unions. claim that the growing expense of living is the reason for their request for a 20% allowance.

The sector minister pleaded with them to return to the classroom on July 7 on Kumasi's Pure FM as they seek to put an end to the situation.

"I'll plead with them to return to the classroom. They would get whatever they asked for if left to me alone since teaching is not an easy profession. We are fully aware of the important work they are doing for all of us as a people, even if it takes a lot of devotion.

Now is the moment when kids begin making specific requests. However, we are appealing with them to turn around on our end and go back to the classroom so that we may keep interacting with their leadership group.

We haven't given in to their demands, they say. We're merely pleading with them to return to class. We will reach wise conclusions that are advantageous to all parties involved.

By the end of this week, we should have resolved this problem. Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum stated to Pure FM presenter Kwame Adjei Bohyen, "We would engage the Labour Commission and Fair Wages on our side as government to put closure to this situation.
