According to Purefmonline.com, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has rejected requests from members of his party to the government for consideration and review of the school feeding programme among other things in the wake of the economic crisis the nation is currently experiencing to lessen its financial burden.

In an interview with Accra-based CiTi TV, Mark Assibey-Yeboah, the former chair of the Finance Committee of Parliament, urged President Akufo-Addo to consider making drastic cuts to important social policies in order to revive the economy.

The Nation Builders Corps (NABCo), the School Feeding Program, and the Free Senior High School programme (FSHS) are areas the public authorities might set aside cash for and need to take into consideration evaluating, according to him. He demanded that the school be completely demolished.

But on July 7, the Minister of Education pleaded with Ghanaians to reject the appeal since it is not in the students' best interests in a statement to Kumasi-based Pure FM's "Pure Morning Drive."

"We have a phenomenon known as stunting, and studies indicates that feeding kids while they're in school helps prevent this stunting in their growth.

Many nations that provide school meals, like us, are committed to assisting children from disadvantaged families to experience some degree of nutritional growth to support their desire to study ".

"The school feeding programme should be strengthened, not abandoned, as a nation. Sometimes, it serves as a student's only source of nourishment, thus we shouldn't Instead of shouting for its destruction, it is being strengthened.

The school lunch programme is highly important. It makes our students' academic performance better, and many others, in my opinion, agree. The requests to cancel it shouldn't be given any consideration. I oppose the proposal for its revocation in my capacity as minister of education. Kwame Adjei Bohyen was told by Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum.
