Affail Monney, the immediate-past president of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has formally turned over leadership to Albert Kwabena Dwumfour.
Mr. Monney was unable to attend the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected GJA National Executive, which was slated for Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
But on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, in a meeting with the new National Executive at the Ghana International Press Centre, at the latter's invitation, he fulfilled that temporary job.
Highlights of Mr. Monney's seven-page handing-over notes, according to a statement released by the GJA and signed by the General Secretary, Mr. Kofi Yeboah, include a list of boards and organisations the GJA is represented on, membership of foreign organisations, training programme options, the Media Village and Press Centre Redevelopment Projects, the GJA Insurance Scheme, and the GJA Membership ID Card Project.
The immediate past President informed his successor, "Sir, I am glad to pass on the following information which could be of service to you and your administration."
On June 24, 2022, Mr. Monney congratulated the new National Executive members and wished them well in their positions.
Mr. Dwumfour praised Mr. Monney for his many years of service to the Association and promised that the new leadership will continue to benefit from his (Monney's) wealth of knowledge, especially with regard to GJA-related issues.
He stated that after reviewing the old President's handover notes, the new national executive will get in touch with him about issues. The Vice President, Mrs. Linda Asante-Agyei, the General Secretary, Mr. Kofi Yeboah, the National Organising Secretary, Mr. Dominic Hlordzi, and the Treasurer, Mrs. Audrey Dekalu, were all present at the meeting.
Ms. Rebecca Ekpe, the public affairs officer, was not present since she had left the country.
The National Executive would like to let members and the public know that it will soon make a public statement regarding the GJA Media Village Project and the non-disbursement of the KOANS-sponsored three-bedroom house prize for the Journalist of the Year 2016, Kwame Sefa Kayi. The National Executive has been keeping track of media discussions and commentary on these topics.
The National Executive uses this opportunity to wish all Muslims in Ghana a happy Eid-ul-Adha, especially those in the inky fraternity, Barka da Sala. As the Association attempts to reclaim its beautiful image, vigour, and impact, the statement said, "May Allah lead our steps and road towards a fresh lease of optimism and vitality for the GJA."
