Wolves flop Fabio Silva set for Anderlecht loan move after £35m striker, 19, struggles to adapt to life in the Prem
FABIO SILVA is set to sign for Belgium club Anderlecht from Wolves. Silva, 19, arrived at Wolves in 2020 and was highly-tipped as one of the stars of the future. 1 Silva rues a missed chanceCredit: AFP However, things have not gone to plan for him since his £35million transfer. The Portuguese striker is now on the verge of completing a loan move to Anderlecht in order to help him refind his best form, according to Pedro Sepúlveda. The deal will not include an option to buy and Silva's full salary will be covered by the Belgian club. Silva's transfer from Porto smashed Wolves' previous record of £30m which they paid for Mexican Raul Jimenez. Just four goals and six assists in 62 appearances have compounded the struggles which Silva has had since arriving in England. Silva is yet to make an appearance in the senior national team, but has made eight appearances for the Under 21s where he has scored six times. He has also turned out for Wolves Under 23s before, scoring three goals in as many appearances. Thus far Wolves have struggled to bring in players, with deals for Matheus Nunes and Palhinha falling flat. The club seem to have focused their attention on retaining their key stars, with £75m rated Ruben Neves and veteran Joao Moutinho staying put at Molineaux, at least for now. It was reported in Argentina last month that Wolves were prepared to trigger the release clause of Man United target Enzo Fernandez, before Benfica swooped in with a £9m transfer for the Argentine.
Wolves receive loan offer from Anderlecht for Fabio Silva
Anderlecht have made an offer to sign Fabio Silva on a season-long loan with Wolves’ record signing edging closer to a temporary exit from Molineux. While a deal to take the 19-year-old to Belgium has not yet been completed, the striker seems likely to spend the year away from the Premier League attempting to find form. Both Wolves and Silva are keen for him to get regular starts on loan but the top-flight club want the teenager to sign a new contract before the move is completed, which would protect his resale value to the club. Silva, who joined Wolves for £35 million from Porto two years ago, did not find the net last season in 22 Premier League appearances, which included six starts. Anderlecht will now offer him the chance to play regularly and rediscover his goalscoring touch in a bid to kick-start his Wolves career. Wolves must now rubberstamp the move, which would intensify their own need for attacking reinforcements with Raul Jimenez currently their only senior centre-forward. There is not expected to be a purchase option in any loan deal. Silva's Wolves contract is due to expire in June 2025. (Photo: Getty Images)
