In anticipation of the conclusion of the negotiations with the government, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the striking teachers to return to work.

In order to protect children's education as the government works diligently to address the nation's economic problems, Mr. Akufo-Addo said that classes should resume.

Mr. Akufo-Addo stated, "I am aware that some teacher unions have declared strike in pursuit of a twenty percent Cost of Living Allowance, in his Edul-Adha address on Saturday, July 9.

I'm glad that yesterday, the teachers and other laborers affiliated with the Trades Union Congress met with the administration, which was represented by the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations and the Minister for Education, to start talks on this issue.

"I want to join the outstanding Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Ignatius Baffur Awauh, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, in urging the teachers to return to the classrooms while the negotiations are still ongoing so that the education of our kids, some of whom are getting ready for their final exams, is not hampered.

"The globe and we both find ourselves in a terrible situation. Leaders all over the world are working tirelessly to address the basic issues that have led to the current economic situation the world is in, just like we are doing here in Ghana. But I am convinced that we will find our own Zamzam well soon, just as Hagga's efforts led to the discovery of the Zamzam well, from which we still get our water today.

The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the TEWU withdrew their support on Monday, July 4th, 2022, in support of their demand for the Cost-of-Living Allowance (COLA).

Both teaching and non-teaching employees were involved in this.
