Bacary Sagna sends blunt message to Liverpool's Premier League rivals
At the end of the 2021–2022 Premier League season, Liverpool finished third, 18 points ahead of Chelsea. Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna does not anticipate Liverpool's rivals catching them in the race for the Premier League title the following year.
Man City won the league in 2022 by one point, but Jurgen Klopp's team was 18 points ahead of Chelsea in third place and 21 points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth. The Reds and City have now created a gap between themselves and the rest of the league.
Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund has strengthened City, while Nathan Ake and Raheem Sterling are likely to go to Chelsea. While Antonio Conte attempts to keep the squad in the UEFA Champions League, Spurs have been active in the summer transfer window.
Fifth-placed Gabriel Jesus, a striker for City, has also been signed by Arsenal, and Manchester United is now in contract talks with a number of players. The acquisitions of Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsey, as well as the breaking of their transfer record by the acquisition of Darwin Nunez from Benfica to replace Sadio Mane, have enhanced Liverpool despite all of this.
Given that Mohamed Salah recently extended his contract, former Gunner Sagna finds it difficult to believe that City and Liverpool, who together have won the last five league titles, can be caught up to by the trailing group.
Sagna told Lord Ping that it would be impossible for Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal to compete with Man City and Liverpool for the championship.
"These two teams have been in charge for many years, and they both keep bolstering their rosters with players of the highest caliber.
"Teams like Chelsea, Tottenham, and Arsenal are undergoing a lengthy rebuilding process.
Although I don't believe any of them are ready to compete with Manchester City or Liverpool this season, they will all get better.
