There is no way to avoid subjectivity while ranking the greatest Manchester United(opens in new tab) players of all time.

One reason why it's tough to compare athletes from different eras is that we all have a propensity to favor those who stand out in our individual memory for whatever reason.

The success of the team will always have the final say when it comes to praising individuals in the ultimate team sport.

How do we compare successes to performances made during a less prosperous time for the club? Should longevity and having only one club be important considerations? Do we take into account a player's influence at the club, no matter how brief, in addition to appearances and goal-scoring records?

Fans have always attempted to construct "greatest" lists and will continue to do so regardless of how we evaluate the various criteria. This allows us all an opportunity to reflect on those astounding displays of talent and tenacity that shape our fondest memories.

Here, therefore, is my very own opinion of Manchester United's greatest players. I know many of you will disagree with me on this, and you should, but my opinion is one that is founded on my nearly four decades of writing about and supporting the club.
