As a result of Matt Targett's departure, Steven Gerrard is trying to give Lucas Digne competition at left-back, and Aston Villa is in talks to recruit Sevilla's Ludwig Augustinsson.

Ludwig Augustinsson's loan transfer to Aston Villa from Sevilla is about to be finalized.

After playing in the La Liga for just one season, the Sevilla left-back is expected to leave Spain.

To rival Lucas Digne, Steven Gerrard wants to sign a new left-back.

Villa has already added four players during the summer transfer window.

As manager Steven Gerrard searches for a fifth summer addition, Aston Villa is in talks to bring in Sevilla left-back Ludwig Augustinsson.

Diego Carlos, Philippe Coutinho, Robin Olsen, and Boubacar Kamara were all signed to permanent contracts during the summer transfer window, making Villa one of the Premier League's busiest movers.

The La Liga team Sevilla and the Midlands club have been in continuous touch, and a loan agreement for the 45-cap Sweden international is now almost complete.

Ludwig Augustinsson might be on the verge of leaving Sevilla and joining Aston Villa on loan.

Augustinsson has experience playing for Premier League teams after facing West Ham.

Due to the loss of Matt Targett to Newcastle United, Villa are lacking in full-backs, and Gerrard wants to address this issue before the new season begins.

In addition to provide protection, the 28-year-old will challenge Lucas Digne, who joined from Everton in January.

Augustinsson only paid just under £10 million to join Sevilla last year, and now Gerrard is trying to bring the left-back to Villa Park. This will be Augustinsson's second move in two seasons.

In Villa's first team, the 28-year-old left back will face off against Lucas Digne.

Prior to transferring to Spain, he made 115 appearances for Bundesliga team Werder Bremen after winning league and cup titles in Denmark and Swindon.

After making 27 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League last season, notably during Sevilla's European Cup elimination against West Ham, Sevilla's decision to approve Augustinsson's loan move is shocking.

Last year, the versatile full-back made just one assist for the Spanish team but failed to score any goals.

Before their flight to Australia for preseason matches against Leeds, Brisbane Roar, and Manchester United, Aston Villa will expect to get the deal for Augustinsson finalized.
