The Liverpool tour strike force has been announced, with Darwin Nunez included despite the absence of three first-team players.
The Reds have named a 37-man squad for their pre-season tour, which includes new signings Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho, but three notable Reds are missing.
Liverpool have named a 37-man squad for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Singapore, with Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho making their debuts.
The team boarded a plane in Manchester on Saturday to begin their long journey around the world, arriving early on Sunday. The Reds have been busy in the summer transfer window, announcing the stunning capture of Nunez from Benfica in a deal worth up to £85 million before completing the signing of the 19-year-old Portuguese Carvalho, who nearly joined the Reds from Fulham in the January transfer window.
Calvin Ramsay, an 18-year-old defender who joined the Reds from Aberdeen last month, is not in the squad. Ramsay was signed to provide competition for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is among the traveling party, but Jurgen Klopp recently revealed that during his medical, an injury that could cause him long-term problems was discovered.
"Regrettably, Calvin is no longer training with us at the moment due to a minor injury," Klopp explained. Nobody knew until we discovered it during his medical exam. He has had no problems up to this point.
"However, the medical department tells us that if we don't take care of that now, he'll have a problem later." So, when you're that young, you have a long career ahead of you, so we have a lot of responsibility in these situations.
"What a player he is, and what he did for Aberdeen last year was absolutely outstanding. In his age group, and you know what we need from a full-back, he is as close as it gets to what we want while still being a kid. So we have high hopes for him in the long run."
Liverpool's travelling party is also missing goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who played in the EFL Cup final win over Chelsea in February and whose future at Anfield is in doubt as he seeks more regular first-team football. Both Alisson Becker and Adrian are in the squad, as are youth team goalkeepers Fabian Mrozek and Harvey Davies.
Neco Williams is also missing as he nears a big-money move to Nottingham Forest, and 17-year-old Kaide Gordon is also missing after impressing during pre-season for the Reds a year ago.
Mohamed Salah, Alisson, Fabinho, and Kostas Tsimikas did not travel with the original squad due to a later pre-season rest period, but will join their teammates in the Far East. Stefan Bajcetic, Bobby Clark, Isaac Mabaya, Melkamu Frauendorf, Luke Chambers, Tyler Morton, James Norris, and Tom Hill are among the young players in Klopp's squad.
The Reds will face Manchester United in Thailand on July 12 before facing Crystal Palace three days later in Singapore. In pre-season, Klopp's team will also face RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg, before hosting French side Strasbourg on July 31 at Anfield.
Liverpool's season will begin on July 30 at Wembley Stadium with a Community Shield match against Manchester City, followed by a Saturday lunchtime trip to newly-promoted Fulham on August 6.
