Lionel Messi's alert to Cristiano Ronaldo rings true despite Manchester United's exit strategy.
The Argentine superstar warned Cristiano Ronaldo that his return to Manchester United after a 12-year absence was likely to be turbulent.
Because of the unpredictable nature of the Premier League, Lionel Messi warned Cristiano Ronaldo that his return to Manchester United was unlikely to go as planned.
Since his high-profile summer transfer from Barcelona this summer, the Argentine superstar has struggled to find his best form in Paris. Messi was unable to prevent PSG's elimination from the Champions League Round of 16 against Real Madrid after his first-leg penalty was saved by Thibaut Courtois. Messi and his teammate Neymar were both booed by PSG fans in the following Ligue 1 match, when PSG faced Bordeaux.
Messi struggled to live up to expectations in Paris, scoring 11 goals in 34 appearances during his debut season. According to reports, Messi is unhappy in Paris because he has failed to settle in the city and at the club for a variety of reasons, but it has been emphasized that the player does not wish to re-join Barca after ending his 16-year stint in the club's first team. This is similar to Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford last summer after a 12-year absence.
Ronaldo wants to leave United just a year after returning to Old Trafford, and the 37-year-old is the only player who has not reported to pre-season training this month due to 'family reasons.' This means that the Portuguese superstar is not among the 31-man squad that has flown to Bangkok.
United are said to have taken a private stance that Ronaldo could be sold this summer, acknowledging that they should plan for a summer exit. Despite scoring 24 goals for the Red Devils last season, the team finished in sixth place, after finishing runners-up the previous season.
In November, when asked about Ronaldo's move to Manchester United after Solskjaer was fired, Messi told Marca: "United are a very strong team with great players." Cristiano was already familiar with the club, but at a different stage, and he has adapted admirably.
"He has consistently scored goals and has had no trouble adjusting. The Premier League is not as good as we all thought it would be, but it is a very difficult and even competition with many twists and turns. Everything changes after December, and anything can happen."
Messi was also asked if he missed competing against Ronaldo on a regular basis, despite the fact that the two faced each other in La Liga between 2009 and 2018: "It's been a long time since we were in the same league."
"We competed for the same goals as individuals and as a team." It was a very beautiful stage for us, as well as for the audience, who thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a lovely memory that will live on in football history."
