Five Newcastle United youngsters who could go on loan to aid their development
Newcastle United are going through an unprecedented era of change at St. James' Park. They currently have 35 first team squad members - 10 more than the number permitted for the Premier League season. There's no denying that Eddie Howe needs to reshuffle his squad with some players needing to leave Tyneside this summer. Isaac Hayden has been the first departure, joining Norwich City on a season-long loan with the view to make the deal a permanent one depending on his performances. However, there are a number of youth prospects that could also leave St. James' Park in order to continue their development. Freddie Woodman and Mark Gillespie were forced to self-isolate meaning Dan Langley would get the nod between the sticks in the friendly away at York City. The highly rated goalkeeper is expected to join Mike Williamson's National League North champions Gateshead. The 21-year-old will get his first taste of senior football in the National League as the Heed look to establish themselves back in the fifth tier. Speaking ahead of making his debut last summer, Langley said: "I'm kind of being fine-polished now. I'll always have that bit of edginess in there, but as long as it keeps out of the net that then it doesn't really matter." A number of clubs in the second tier are queuing up to sign the Magpies youngster on loan, with Rovers also keen on a return to the Memorial. Newcastle will be keeping a close eye on Anderson this summer, but an opportunity to express himself in the Championship would be a smart move if he's not guaranteed some game time at St. James' Park. Matty Longstaff Matty Longstaff burst onto the scene with a goal against Manchester United but has struggled to nail down a place in the first team. He spent the second-half of last season on loan with Mansfield Town and chipped in with some important goals as the Stags reached the play-off final. It wasn't to be for Nigel Clough's side as they were defeated by Port Vale under the Wembley arch. It's unlikely Longstaff will be able to force his way into the Magpies current midfield, so another loan would be important if he is to develop further.
