Coronavirus protection, half remittance were never paid to wellbeing laborers - GRNMA General Secretary

General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwifery Association, David Tenkorang-Twum, has revealed that compensation due laborers who contributed tremendously to the battle against Covid-19 were not paid.

 

As per him, the extra half stipends on their fundamental compensations (each month for a four-month time frame beginning from March 2020) and other protection helps the public authority guaranteed have not been paid.

 

Talking on The Probe on the JoyNews channel on Sunday he focused on that "even the half fundamental compensation that should be progressed to the people who dealt with our Covid-19 patients, a large portion of them [health workers] didn't get it," he said.

 

On April 5, 2020, President Akufo-Addo declared a few motivators for bleeding edge wellbeing laborers.

 

They included: the "Exclusion from the installment of expense on their work payments for a three-month time frame beginning from April 2020, an everyday remittance of ?150 (approx. US$26) payable to those endeavor contact following, extra stipend of half of their essential compensation each month for a four-month time frame starting from March 2020 and a protection bundle, with a guaranteed amount of ?350,000 (approx. US$60,345)."

 

However, addressing host Emefa Apawu, Dr Tenkorang-Twum revealed that the protection benefit guaranteed wellbeing laborers was likewise not paid.

 

"Greater part of individuals didn't get it. I know individuals who kicked the bucket and their family members never got the protection. Thus, we are tested with a ton of things and in the event that things proceed with along these lines, it won't foreshadow well for us all," he added.

 

Adding to the conversation which focused on the 'Average cost for most everyday items: Weighing the interest of laborers', he featured the situations of laborers under his affiliation and expressed that the ongoing monetary difficulty is convincing medical caretakers and birthing specialists to look for greener fields abroad.

 

He beseeched the public authority to eliminate "free spending" and channel state assets into dealing with the situations of the normal Ghanaian, particularly the workforce.
