Erik ten Hag makes a statement about Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United: "He's not for sale."

With Manchester United currently out of the Champions League, forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, and Erik ten Hag has addressed the issue.

Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale and that he is planning for the new season with the Premier League club's star player on board.

Ronaldo has not joined United on their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia due to family issues, but his representatives have stated that he wishes to leave after only one season back.

Ten Hag was questioned about Ronaldo in Bangkok, ahead of United's pre-season opener against Liverpool on Tuesday, and revealed that he spoke with the 37-year-old before the player's future plans became unclear.

"He is not with us because of personal issues," he explained. But we have plans with Cristiano for this season, so that's it, and I'm excited to work with him. I spoke with him before this problem arose. I had a great conversation with him, but that will remain between us. Cristiano, on the other hand, is not for sale."

Ten Hag's first game as United manager is against old rivals Liverpool, and the 52-year-old is looking forward to the opportunity to pit himself against Jurgen Klopp's team. "It's always exciting to play Liverpool, it's a big game, we're looking forward to it, and it's a really good test for us," ten Hag said. "Manchester United's standard is to win every game, so we'll start with that in mind, we'll be that determined, and we're excited to play this game in Bangkok for so many fans." We just started, and some players have only been back for a week, so we need to build a team and a style of play."

United playmaker Scott McTominay believes that Ten Hag's philosophy has already been adopted by the club's players. For the past two weeks, Dutchman Ten Hag has been working closely with United's players, putting them through intense training sessions and telling them the style he wants to play in an attempt to revive the Premier League club's fortunes after their struggles on the pitch in recent seasons. McTominay revealed that the former Ajax manager is hands-on in training, frequently stopping sessions to explain a specific detail or pattern of play, and that United's players have been receptive to his methods and management style.

"He's got an idea of how he wants to play, and he executes it really, really well in terms of getting across to the players," McTominay stated “. The same is true for [assistant coach] Mitchell [van der Gaag]. For us, the philosophy and ideas of the style of play are clear. It's now up to us as players to really take the message to heart and push with everything we've got throughout the season. We're here to work hard, as the manager stressed. We're not here to sightsee and explore Thailand. It's time to get to work, and it's definitely time to focus."
