Liverpool are planning contract talks with Diogo Jota following Jurgen Klopp's "world class" prediction.
Liverpool have committed a number of their current squad members to new contracts this summer, and Diogo Jota could be the next to sign new terms at Anfield.
Liverpool are famously planning to continue their squad-wide investment, with Diogo Jota the most recent player to be offered new terms to stay at Anfield.
Over the last few months, the Reds have committed a number of key players and staff to new contracts. Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool's manager, was the first to sign a new contract, with his contract being extended until the summer of 2026 back in April.
Following him was star forward Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian's previous contract was set to expire next summer, and there were fears that Liverpool would be forced to cash in on him or lose him for free in a year's time.
That's not the case, as the former AS Roma forward signed a new three-year contract to stay at Anfield. The new contract offers have not stopped there, with defender Joe Gomez signing a contract that will last until the summer of 2027, despite reported interest from Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa.
Jota could be the latest Liverpool player to sign a new contract after impressing since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020. According to the Liverpool Echo, his impressive performances at Anfield have 'encouraged' the club to discuss a new contract.
It is recommended that he could be in line for an increase in his current weekly salary of £90,000 as a reward for his performances. Despite that decision, there appears to be no rush in negotiations, as Jota's contract still has three years left on it.
The 25-year-old Portuguese international has made 85 appearances for Liverpool and scored 34 goals. He had an explosive start to last season and, despite a stuttering final few months, finished the season with 21 goals in all competitions.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has historically praised Jota for his development since joining the club and suggested that he could one day reach the pinnacle of the game. "Since he came in, he improved a lot, that is a little to do with his age, he is growing into the top world class striker role step by step," the German said in April.
"He is supplying for Portugal pretty consistently, which would be a difficult job with all of their attacking firepower, so he is the player we expected him to be and a little bit better."
Despite his important role in the Liverpool squad and the sale of Mane, Jota will face more competition next season. Earlier in the transfer window, the Reds secured the big-money signing of forward Darwin Nunez from Benfica, while young winger Fabio Carvalho has already made an impression after joining from Fulham.
