GHANA RECORDS 6% DECLINE IN PINEAPPLE EXPORTS IN 2021; RANKED 11TH GLOBALLY

The value of Ghana's pineapple exports to the globe fell by 6% in 2021 compared to revenues in 2020. The Ghana Exports Promotion Authority (GEPA) estimates that in 2021, exports brought in $29 million. 

 

In 2019 and 2020, the nation exported pineapples worth $35 million and $31.7 million, respectively. The EU market received over 85.8% of Ghana's whole pineapple exports.

Around 34.6% of all exports were absorbed by Belgium in 2021. Worldwide, Belgium imported pineapples worth $132 million, 7.6% of which came from Ghana. With a proportion of the total imports of pineapple by Belgium of around 66.1 percent, Costa Rica was the market's leading supplier.

Netherlands (11.1 percent) and Cote d'Ivoire were additional important suppliers to the Belgian market (6.1 percent ). In 2021, Costa Rica's total exports were $1.6 billion, up from $922.74 in 2020.

 

 

The USA was Costa Rica's top export market (42.6 percent ). The Netherlands (7.7%), Spain (7%) and Italy were other market locations (6.3 percent ).

 

In 2021, Belgium and the USA had a 26% and 14% yearly rise in Costa Rican pineapple exports, respectively. In 2021, pineapple exports from the Netherlands totaled $189.7 million. The top five export destinations for the Netherlands were Germany (37.3%), Belgium (11.1%), France (7.3%), Poland (7.3%), and Austria (3.6 percent ).

 

In ECOWAS, Cote d'Ivoire exported $33.12 million worth of pineapples in 2021, followed by Ghana. Cote d'Ivoire's main markets in the EU were France (50.4%) and Belgium (24.4 percent ).

 

 

 

The greatest provider of pineapples worldwide was Costa Rica. The Philippines ($284m), the Netherlands ($190m), and the United States of America ($98m) were further international contributors.

 

 

 

 

 

In terms of pineapple exports to the world, Cote d'Ivoire came out on top in Africa, followed by Ghana and Kenya. About 68 percent of the value of pineapples shipped from Africa was provided by Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana, a pattern the two nations have sustained over time.

 

 

 

Similarly, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire supplied more than 97 percent of the entire value of ECOWAS exports, demonstrating the two West African countries' strong position in Africa. Ghana was placed 11th among the nations that exported pineapples in 2021.
