The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, Ignatius Kaigama has kicked against Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket.

According to Kaigama, Nigeria is not ripe for such ticket.

His statement comes after the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Sunday, confirmed the selection of the former Governor of Borno, Kashim Shettima as his running mate during an interview with journalists in Daura, Katsina State.

Prior to the development, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) had vehemently rejected the idea of a single-faith-ticket, urging political parties to focus more on competence than sentiment.

Tinubu who ended with a Muslim-Muslim ticket has, however, defended his reasons for not picking a Christian as his running mate.

In an interview with The Punch on Sunday, Kaigama said that the country is not yet ready for the same faith Presidential ticket in the 2023 presidential election.

Kaigama argued that the choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket or a Christain-Christain ticket is unfair and unjust to the faith that was excluded.

The cleric said that for the sake of religious sensitivity and tolerance, it is good that there should be a balance in such tickets.

He said, “When you decide that only one religion will produce the major actors, excluding others who will become like strangers, it would not be fair and just. For the sake of religious sensitivity in a place like Nigeria, it is good that we have a balance so that we become like one big family.”
