Last season, Harry Maguire had a challenging time with the team.

The team had a difficult season last year, finishing sixth in the Premier League and being eliminated from all cup competitions rather fast, much like many Manchester United players.

Not much else happened in a season that got off to such a stunning start with the 5-1 hammering of Leeds United on the first day, the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, and his incredible second debut against Newcastle United.

With losses to Watford, Manchester City, and Liverpool, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired as manager, and the club slowly began to fall apart as the season went on. Those few events were pretty much the season's peak.

Harry Maguire, the club captain, took a lot of the criticism for the issues at the team last season, and he has finally spoken out about it.

Maguire explained: "Last season was a long, challenging, difficult season," when speaking to the club media.

But now that it is passed, we must look ahead to the future with the new manager. We are aware that we need to go better than last season and we will.

We'll put in a lot of effort, he added. "The boys have all returned in fantastic shape."

It was ultimately decided that Erik ten Hag would be put in charge of the football team after Ralf Rangnick took over for the rest of the season. His time at Ajax had left a lasting impression on many people around the world.

Last season, there were numerous complaints about the squad's players' lack of fitness from both fans and dressing room sources. With regard to this interview, Maguire makes several mentions of the players' lack of fitness.

Maguire explained how he returned to training after his vacation in the following manner: "I came back a week later, [as] one of the international lads, so when you see the [other] boys back at Carrington working hard,You want to return as soon as possible and join in because you know they are working hard to improve their fitness.

In order to comprehend their current levels and the levels they must be at come the Premier League opening weekend, he continued to bring up fitness.

"We've returned in good shape, but we still need to work on our fitness. On our behalf from the previous year, I believe we are aware that we need to improve in all areas, including fitness, physical health, and mental health.

Many supporters talked about the team's apparent lack of tactical coherence during games during the 2021/22 season.

The content of training sessions was much questioned, but Maguire has made it obvious what Erik ten Hag has been practicing with them on.

The first few weeks, in my opinion, are all about volume and improving your physical condition, said Maguire. "There have also been a lot of tactical suggestions made.

"We know the season is four weeks away and it approaches quickly, so you've got to work on both as [much] as you can, but [training] physically is the most crucial in the first few weeks," said one coach.

Tomorrow in Bangkok, Manchester United will play Liverpool to begin their preseason.

After playing three opponents in Australia—Melbourne Victory, Aston Villa, and Crystal Palace—the club then takes a flight back to Europe to play Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano. This is when impending signing Christian Eriksen is expected to join the team after signing later this week.

Erik ten Hag's team's Premier League campaign gets underway on August 7 against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.
