Some widows and vulnerable women in Gurugu, a community in Sagnarigu Municipality in the Northern Region, expressed their joy over food they received from "Bawumia for Ghana" (BawuGha), a youth group affiliated to the ruling New Patriotic Party.

Items provided to the beneficiaries include bags of rice, beverages, bottled water and livestock to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha.

While receiving the items from Sally in the community, Mma Ayi Abubakar noted on behalf of the women that the items given to them came at an opportune time considering the high cost of living.

According to her, this year's "Salla" would not be possible without support due to the rising prices of goods and services in the market.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to this reporter expressed their joy at the assistance and revealed that they are in fact in dire need of food items to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha.

The National Coordinator of the Bawumia Project for Ghana (BawuGha), Mr Emmanuel Mensah, said the group, as part of its duties, deals with social issues including supporting the less privileged.

“We did it as a gift in the northern region because of the poverty there. We all know that the northern zone is one of the poorest regions in the country, so to give relief and put smiles on people's faces on a day like this, there is a need to support people here,” he said.

Mr. Emmanuel mentioned that the group consulted imams, congregation members and opinion leaders who actually identified these women in need.

“Some of them are widows, some of them have also had their homes burnt down, so as you can see we want them to feel involved and love a special day like this.

“Bawumia for Ghana, we are a group of young people who believe in showcasing the good work of Dr. the next president of Ghana, we decided to support Bawumia because of his good work, Ghanaians can now sit at home and get a passport after the digitization programs the man Bawumia is implementing,” he stated.

He further stated that the group has mapped out several programs to support the Vice President's agenda to become President.
