Brentford submit record bid to make Keane Lewis-Potter first major signing of the summer
Brentford have made a bid for Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter, who could become their club-record signing, according to a report. Last summer, Brentford broke their transfer record by signing defender Kristoffer Ajer for £13m. Now, they could be about to eclipse it with a bigger package for England under-21 international Lewis-Potter. According to The Athletic, they have made an offer of £16m – plus a potential £4m in add-ons – to Championship side Hull City. They already attempted to lure him away from east Yorkshire during each of the past two transfer windows. Now, they are hoping it is third time lucky. Their latest offer has been submitted, which they will hope leads to a positive conclusion. In turn, he could become their first senior signing of the summer. Lewis-Potter is emerging from a season in which he scored 13 goals in all competitions. He appeared in all but one of the Tigers’ 46 Championship matches and played once in each domestic cup. Still only 21 years old, the attacking midfielder has a big future ahead of him. He seems capable of making a step up to the Premier League – and may do so with Brentford. Lewis-Potter has also been linked with the likes of West Ham and Tottenham. Each would be able to offer him European football. Yet Brentford may be the best route via which he can step up to the top-flight. By joining them, he may have the best chance of regular gametime. There are plenty of years ahead in his career to become a player of European pedigree. But doing so now may be too much, too soon. Spurs still in the mix for Hull's Keane Lewis-Potter Spurs are still in the mix for Hull attacker Keane Lewis-Potter after failing to sign him in January He has certainly demonstrated his potential in the Championship, though. Therefore, Brentford would provide a good platform for him. His contract with Hull City only has 12 months left to run on it, although there is an option for an extension by another year. Still, now seems the right time for him to test himself elsewhere – and Brentford could benefit.
