Liverpool faces a major injury scare after a 'stunning' player withdraws from training & misses Man United friendly match
Darwin Nunez, the new Liverpool signing, has pulled up in his second training session with a foot problem.
The Reds are in Thailand for a pre-season tour ahead of the new season, and they face Manchester United in their first friendly tomorrow.
The Urugayan felt some discomfort in his left foot near the end of the open session in front of many Liverpool fans in the Far East while training at the Ranjamangala Stadium in the Thai capital.
Nunez spent the rest of the session watching on a cool box, according to The Athletic's James Pearce.
"He's perched on a cool box, watching the rest of the session." He appears to have a painful blister. It's got to be the new boots." The journalist wrote Nunez appeared to have developed blisters.
Following that, Nunez was filmed stretching with the physio, leading many fans to believe he is fit to play.
Nunez joined the Reds from Benfica for an initial fee of £68 million, which could rise to £85 million, surpassing the club's highest ever spend on a player, which was £75 million for Virgil van Dijk.
He scored 26 goals in 28 Premeira Liga games for Benfica, earning him the Portuguese Player of the Season award.
Despite Nunez's foot injury, Jurgen Klopp will be just as excited to see his new signing in action as all Liverpool fans in the coming season.
"When he played in front of us, it was massively impressive," he said.
"When Benfica prepares, you know up to the size of shoes - we know absolutely everything about an opponent, so we know exactly about Darwin's quality."
The power and confusion with technique, the desire, the clever moves, the problems he caused us. "We all fell in love with these two games." It's a good thing he's a very aggressive South American! It was a joy to watch him, so when we realized we had a good chance to sign him, we were all-in and we’re really happy he’s here now.”
Fans will hope Nunez will recover in time for the match against Man Utd tomorrow
