Manchester United and Barcelona are said to have verbally agreed on a fee for Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong joined Barcelona in 2019 and has quickly established himself as a regular for the Spanish club. Erik ten Hag managed the Dutch international when he joined Barcelona from Ajax.
According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Manchester United and Barcelona have verbally agreed on a fee for De Jong, with the Premier League club hoping to complete a deal by the weekend.
After losing Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic this summer, Ten Hag would have prioritized a midfielder.
Ten Hag is familiar with De Jong's abilities and what he can bring to Manchester United, having worked with him at Ajax. De Jong will be completely free of the manager's demands and should fit the style of play perfectly.
Even after losing Pogba and Matic, Manchester United's remaining midfielders failed to impress last season, so signing De Jong could be their best piece of business this summer.

Chelsea have been given a list of replacements for Raphinha, who is set to join Barcelona, as Thomas Tuchel responds to reports that the club could sign Cristiano Ronaldo.
Raphinha has been given a list of alternative transfer targets by Chelsea, despite the fact that the Leeds United winger is desperate to move to Barcelona instead.
The Blues had agreed a fee of £55 million with Raphinha's club, but Raphinha wants to move to Spain instead. With the move approaching, Thomas Tuchel will have to look for other options as he looks to revamp his squad this summer.
It comes after the Blues manager provided a cryptic response to a fan's question about whether Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will join the club this summer. And, after being given the opportunity to take over as manager, John Terry has spoken out about his role at the club.
Raphhinha substitutes discovered
Chelsea may have to find an alternative transfer target for Raphinha, as the Leeds United winger is set to join Barcelona.
While Raheem Sterling is expected to arrive to bolster Thomas Tuchel's left wing, it appears the Blues manager also wants to add a new option on the right wing. As Tuchel has been handed the role, a number of players may be available to fill it.
West Ham's Jarrod Bowen, ex-Arsenal star Serge Gnabry, Ajax's Antony, and Sassuolo winger Domenico Berardi are all possible additions to Tuchel's attacking options.
Tuchel responds to Cristiano Ronaldo
When a Chelsea fan asked if the club was about to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, Thomas Tuchel responded in cryptic fashion.
The Manchester United forward has asked to leave his current club in order to compete in the Champions League next season, with Blues owner Todd Boehly said to have discussed the superstar during a recent meeting with his agent Jorge Mendes. When asked about the Portugal international, Tuchel laughed and said he would "not tell" if the club is interested in signing Ronaldo.
