Manchester United's new manager, Erik ten Hag, has confirmed the Red Devils' captain for next season, despite mounting pressure from fans and the entire Old Trafford faithful for England international, Harry Maguire, to be removed from the position following his disastrous season last season.
Speaking at today's press conference ahead of the Red Devils' pre-season match against arch-rivals Liverpool on Tuesday, the Dutch tactician reiterated that Maguire will retain the captaincy armband during his tenure at Old Trafford.
"Harry Maguire is the captain," Erik ten Hag says. I need to get to know all of the players, but he's a seasoned captain with a track record of success.
His confirmation comes as a huge blow to the star trio of David De Gea, Bruno Fernandes, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who have all been tipped to take over the captaincy role under Ten Hag.
Meanwhile, the 52-year-old has confirmed that star striker Cristiano Ronaldo is not for sale and will thus remain at the Theatre of Dreams for next season, despite reports of a possible exit during the ongoing summer transfer window.
