The reaction of Cristiano Ronaldo's camp to Manchester United manager Richard Arnold speaks volumes.
Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United this summer, and new club chief Richard Arnold's approach has impressed the player's camp as they look for a buyer.
Cristiano Ronaldo's camp has been impressed by Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold's handling of his exit request.
The Portuguese superstar wants to leave the club less than a year after joining. Last season, the 37-year-old continued to find the net on a regular basis, but the team was unable to compete for silverware, finishing sixth and missing out on a year in the Champions League.
That is one of the reasons for Ronaldo's departure, and Jorge Mendes is now looking to move his client on for the second summer in a row. It has left United in a bind, especially given the timing, but Ronaldo's camp has praised Arnold's approach to the player's future, according to The Times.
Arnold has given Ronaldo and his team the freedom to investigate their options. Chelsea has been mentioned as a possible destination, with Todd Boehly looking to make a splash this summer. Bayern Munich has also been mentioned as a possibility, as has a return to either Italy or Portugal.
United has also wasted no time in making the necessary changes following their disappointing season the previous year. With the arrival of Erik ten Hag in the dugout, new players were immediately pursued, albeit with varying degrees of success.
He has also emphasized Ronaldo's importance to this United team despite his age, which is backed up by Ten Hag, who insists he is preparing for the No 7 to play. He stated: "That's all we have planned with Ronaldo for this season. I'm excited to collaborate with him."
When asked if he wants to leave, Ronaldo replied: "He has not informed me of this. I have read, but as I previously stated, Cristiano is not for sale; he is part of our plans, and we want to achieve success together."
United had previously stated that they were willing to listen to offers for Ronaldo this summer, but Ten Hag's latest remarks indicate a desire to keep the veteran forward. Last season, Ronaldo divided fans at Old Trafford, with some claiming that his unique personality was harming the team.
The return of Ronaldo, according to Jamie Carragher, was a bad decision. "He's always played for great teams, and his attitude of trying to be the main man, driving the team on, getting the goals, when you're in a great team, that's seen as a positive," he said on The Overlap.
"When you're not playing for a great team, it can be viewed negatively, and I believe that has been the case this season. Even if he scores goals, Manchester United cannot go into next season with a 38-year-old center-forward. That is not acceptable for Manchester United."
