Erik ten Hag was 'frustrated' by Manchester United's training session due to a clear demand.

Manchester United must learn a new style of play now that Erik ten Hag is in charge, and the Dutchman expressed his displeasure during a pre-season session.

Erik ten Hag expressed his displeasure after observing a group of Manchester United players failing to correctly execute a drill in training.

The Dutchman, who recently took charge of the team, is still trying to get his message across as he settles into his first weeks with the playing squad. Ten Hag's Ajax team played with a clear philosophy, which he will now try to implement in Manchester, and he has proven to be a difficult taskmaster.

United is on a pre-season tour in Thailand, and much of their training has been focused on possession-based drills. The entire team participated in a keep-ball drill before splitting into smaller groups overseen by Ten Hag's two assistants, Steve McClaren and Mitchell van der Gaag.

Ten Hag raised his voice and expressed his displeasure with the group led by Van der Gaag, which was mostly made up of first-team stars. In an ideal situation, eight players took on three. The attacking team received one point for every five passes completed, while the defensive team could earn five points at once by scoring into a small goal at either end of the area.

According to The Athletic, Ten Hag bemoaned the attacking side's inability to create the formation he prefers - two in midfield. "Bring an extra player - two in the middle," he said emphatically. Football allows you to create triangles. The same rule applies every time."

The club's two regular central midfielders have been Fred and Scott McTominay, but Donny van de Beek is set to be given another chance to impress under the manager he previously worked with at Ajax. Another former Ajax player, Frenkie de Jong, is also on the club's roster.

Bruno Fernandes has provided insight into the new regime's demands, telling the United website, "It's been pretty intense." He (Ten Hag) enjoys intense training and reacting when the ball is lost. Everyone should run, according to him. He's been fantastic. Obviously, everyone is having a good time. Everyone is exhausted by the end of the training, but that is what we must do.

"We have to be like that at the end of the training, but you know that the training was excellent. As I previously stated, we must put in the effort now in order to be ready for the start of the season. We're all aware that the first games of the season are strange, but we want to be the ones who win."
