The national association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has indicated that they will not back down on the strike even though the President of Ghana's pleas,
Nana Akufo-Addo in his speech on the Ed-ul-Adha celebration pleaded with the four teachers organized unions to call off their strike and return to the classroom as Government is committed to resolving the issues.Despite the pleas the strike will continue according to the Gender Coordinator of NAGRAT Ms Rebecca Ocran Abaidoo on Joy news, She explained that the strike can’t be the call off just like that, because the union is expected to meet its members before such a decision can be taken, she expresses anticipation on how the supposed meeting with the Ministry of Employment will go on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
“We are hopeful that we would have something tangible to send to our rank and file so that we would call off the strike. (But) We are still on strike and we have not called off the strike,” she said.
Madam Ocran Abaidoo indicated that this is not a disrespect to the president's plea but wants her association to want a broader consultation with their leadership and members before such determination can happen.According to her “we just didn’t arrive at this position”, hence the strike cannot be randomly called off.“We have heard His Excellency but we need to consult our rank and file,” she said.
