COLA Strike: Government concludes discussions with coordinated worker's organizations

The gathering between the public authority and coordinated worker's guilds over the Cost of Living Allowance(COLA) has been dismissed endlessly.

As per the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Bright Wereko-Brobbey, the deferment was because of the refusal of some worker's guilds to cancel their strike before talks begin.

"We have needed to conclude the gathering on the grounds that the two players; work and government believe that we can't do this while a party is protesting, so the understanding is that we are heading out to converse with one another. They cancel the strike and we return again to meet," he told Joy News.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and the Deputy Minister of Employment and Labor Relations, Bright Wereko-Brobbey along with other government authorities were available at the gathering.

He noticed that the gathering will be reconvened over the week for exchanges to proceed.

Before the intermission, two educator associations pardoned themselves from the discussions with the public authority over their requests for Cost of Living Allowance (COLA).

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the National Graduate Association of Teachers (NAGRAT) blamed government for selling out of trust for requesting that they cancel their strike before talks.

"By showing and requesting that we cancel our strike before dealings start, what it implies is that the public authority side isn't prepared to proceed with discussions except if the instructor associations cancel the strike. They have kept all coordinated work prisoner, this is a treachery of trust.

"This moment since we are unwanted, before they even walk us out of the gathering we are leaving the gathering ourselves," NAGRAT President, Angel Carbonu told the media on Tuesday.

Government meets educator associations, different gatherings today over COLA

Four educator associations have set out their instruments following government's inability to pay the COLA, which they say might have assisted with alleviating the effect of the increasing cost for most everyday items.

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) and other work bunches are likewise difficult 20% of their essential compensation as COLA.

In spite of a supplication by President Akufo-Addo to reevaluate their position, the associations keep up with they won't withdraw on their requests.

"We are still protesting; we have not canceled the strike. We are glad that we've been welcomed for a conversation on Tuesday [July 12].

"We are confident that we will have something unmistakable to ship off our majority, and cancel the strike," the Gender Coordinator for the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Rebecca Ocran Abaidoo, told JoyNews prior.
