Banks gave 4.93m check cards in 2021 - BoG

A complete number of 4,936,246 check cards was given by banks in 2021, an increment of 2.56% over the situation in 2020, the Bank of Ghana has unveiled in the 2021 Payment Systems Oversight Annual Report.

 

Global plan cards at end-December 2021, was 3,647,285, addressing 73.89% of the absolute given check cards.

 

This contrasted and banks restrictive cards of 1,288,961, which comprised 26.11% of the absolute given charge cards.

The global plan cards expanded by 2.56%, while banks own exclusive cards diminished by 21.62% in 2021.

 

Number of Mastercards increment to 36,237

 

The quantity of Visas gave as toward the finish of December 2021 expanded to 36,237 cards in 2021, from 33,039 cards in December 2020.

 

The expansion in the quantity of Visas gave was by virtue of extra banks approved by the Bank of Ghana to give charge cards.

 

All the Mastercards gave were global plan cards.

The Central Bank added that the entry of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987) and the resulting distribution of the different permit classifications, with the admissible exercises and necessities, has prompted an expansion in applications for authorisation of installment items and administrations.

The complete number of pre-loaded cards gave expanded to 834,584, toward the finish of December 2021, from 573,703 out of 2020.

 

The Central Bank added that the entry of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987) and the resulting distribution of the different permit classifications, with the admissible exercises and necessities, has prompted an expansion in applications for authorisation of installment items and administrations.

 

In 2021, 39 applications for permitting of items and administrations were gotten, when contrasted with 63 out of 2020 and 13 out of 2019.

 

Out of the 39 applications got in 2021, 31 were handled and endorsed by the Bank.
