GACL BOARD EMBARKS ON WORKING VISIT TO REGIONAL AIRPORTS 2

Sunyani Airport

 

During the visit, the Board investigated work on the cover, taxi connect, runway expansion, development of inner streets and redesign of terminal structure.

 

The extent of work incorporates the augmentation of the runway from 1,280 meters to 1,400 meters, development of a cover to oblige one medium-size airplane, development of interior streets and remodel of terminal structure. The advancement of work to date is around 97%.

 

Kumasi Airport

 

At the Kumasi Airport, the Board was taken on a directed visit by the Contractor, Messrs Contracta Construction UK Ltd. to assess Phase II and Phase III of the on-going Kumasi Airport extension project. The task to date is around 93%.

 

The Phase II of the venture, which started in 2018, incorporates the development of another terminal structure to deal with 1,000,000 travelers for each annum, two boarding spans, a street organization, edge wall, a substation and parking garage among others. The expense of the Phase II of development deals with the second most active air terminal in Ghana is assessed at £66,350,000.

 

Stage III of the Kumasi Airport development project includes the expansion of the current runway asphalt from 1,981 meters to 2,320 meters, development of new taxi connection and two cover stopping stands, an Air Traffic Control Building, and a Fire Station among others. The expense for this stage is assessed at £58,900,000.

 

The Kumasi Airport is at present served by two homegrown transporters to be specific: Africa World Airlines (AWA) and PassionAir.

 

The ongoing GACL Board incorporates Mr. Paul Adom-Otchere as Chairman and Madam Philomena Sam, Mr. Kwabena Mantey Jectey Nyarko, Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, Mr. Francis Nunoo, Mr. Kodwo Egyir-Danso, Mr. Teye Adjirackor, Grp Capt. Gervase Wienaa and Madam Pamela Djamson-Tettey as individuals.
