"It's a lifetime decision" - Coach Otto Addo explains why players drag their feet before accepting to play for the Black Stars.
Black Stars Coach Otto Addo has risen to the defence of foreign born Ghanaian players who takes time to consider before switching nationality to feature for the Ghana senior national team.
The Black Stars of Ghana qualified for the FIFA World Cup expected to be held in November later this year after an all-draw game in Kumasi and Abuja, giving the Black Stars advantage because of an away goal. The senior national team of Ghana will lock horns with the likes of Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in the group stage.
According the official information from the Ghana Football Association, players like Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, Patrick Pfeiffer, Stephen Ambrosuis, Ransford Yeboah Koningsdorffer and Antoine Semenyo have completed a nationality switch process and eligible for a call up to the national team for all futire games.
Other players like Callum Hudson-Odoi, Nico Williams, Eddie Nketiah and other players are still being pursued by officials of the football governing body.
In an interview with the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC), Coach Otto Addo indicated that the decision to represent a country is a tough one especially if you were not born in that country but have your origins there. He again admitted that the addition of the new players is a good omen for the Black Stars.
"Since March we have been talking to a lot of players who we think can have an impact on the team, he told the BBC.
"I can understand it can be a difficult decision to make, especially if you were born in another country and you're young".
"It's a lifetime decision, unlike at the club level where you can play for several teams, so it's very difficult and I understand them better, having born in Germany.
"But we want those who have decided to get familiar with the team and the stuff as soon as possible, he concluded.
