The ruling Conservative party has declared that the new UK prime minister to succeed departing Boris Johnson would be unveiled on September 5.

Rueters reports that 11 candidates have expressed interest in taking Johnson's place as the leader of the government's Conservative Party and prime minister after he resigned due to a slew of scandals and a flurry of more than 50 resignations from his cabinet.

Monday saw the release of a timeline for the party's leadership election from the key 1922 Committee of non-ministerial Tory MPs in parliament.

A new prime minister will be appointed when parliament reconvenes on September 5 following its summer recess, according to Graham Brady, chair of the 1922 Committee, who announced that nominations will formally open and shut on Tuesday.

Brady announced that the first vote will take place on Wednesday and that the second vote will probably take place on Thursday.

Candidates would require at least 20 nominations among the party's 358 legislators, according to the 1922 committee of Conservative MPs, which organises the leadership campaign, in order to even advance to the first round of voting on Wednesday.

Then, before a new vote is held on Thursday, everyone who earned less than 30 votes will be removed. To win over the support of their peers, nearly all of the candidates have made bold tax cut promises.

Candidates must now have at least 20 MPs support them in order to run, up from the previous eight, in an effort to speed up the process. Any candidate who does not receive the required number of MPs will be disqualified.

According to Brady, the first vote will be cast on Wednesday, and the second vote will probably be cast on Thursday. 30 MPs who supported them on the first ballot will be disqualified.

Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid, whose resignations as the health minister and finance minister, respectively, set off the wave of resignations, are among the candidates.

Home Secretary Priti Patel is allegedly considering running, along with Foreign Secretary Liz Truss and Sunak's successor Nadhim Zahawi.
