Stephen Ayesu Ntim, George Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah, and Stephen Asamoah Boateng, three pillars of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have emerged as the front-runners in the contest for the position of party national chairman.

From Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 17, 2022, the NPP will host its National Delegates Conference to elect new national leaders.

The three are the front-runners for the role of National Chairman, according to casual discussions with several delegates and party leaders.

The other four candidates, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Akwasi Osei-Adjei, Sammy Crabbe, and Gifty Asantewa Ayeh, often known as Daavi Ama, aren't taking any chances and might come out on top given how difficult these elections are to predict.

A party official who wished to remain unnamed warned the Daily Graphic, "Fear delegates, anything can happen on the D-day, so do not be shocked when another candidate outside the top three emerges as the winner."

In the campaign for national chairmanship, there are 6,730 delegates with plenty of options.

Various positions

The First and Second Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, Treasurer, National Organiser, Women Organiser, Youth Organiser, and Nasara Co-ordinator are additional executive posts that will be fiercely fought throughout the three-day conference.

Delegates meeting

46 candidates have been approved, and they are currently travelling around the nation to present the party's platform to delegates. They've positioned themselves as the top candidates to "break the 8."

The aspirant national executive members have pledged to make sure that the ruling NPP maintains control once President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-two Addo's mandates are up.

It's now up to individuals running for the different national offices to find out whether they won or lost, as well as how effectively their messages were received by delegates.

The fourth round of the NPP's internal elections is the National Delegates Conference.

Elections for polling place executives, constituency executives, and regional officers kicked began the process, which is anticipated to come to a close with the selection of the party's presidential candidate for the general election of 2024.

top rankings

Unquestionably, the most competitive elections are those for the two top offices of National Chairman and General Secretary. Old guards, stalwart contenders, and some newcomers are competing.

Candidates

For unyielding Mr. Ntim, a former first vice-chairman of the NPP, who is making a sixth consecutive run for the national chairmanship, it's make or break time.

To persuade the delegates, he has used the Twi phrase "time aso," which means "it is time."

Mr. Abankwah-Yeboah, the party's current national treasurer, is another candidate who is seen to be a front-runner. He is hoping that his position as national treasurer would persuade the delegates to elect him as national chairman.

For Mr. Asazoah Boateng, a former Minister of Information, Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi, the first Minister of Railways Development and former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), When one of them receives the nomination for National Chairman, they will be hoping to use their previous experience in government to transform and strengthen the party. These individuals include Mr. and immediate past Director-General of the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), as well as Mr. Osei-Adjei, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.

The other candidate, Mr. Crabbe, served as the NPP's second National Chairman and Greater Accra Regional Chairman. From the local level to the federal level, Mr. Crabbe has been in the vanguard of NPP's organisational and administrative structure.

Mr. Crabbe is back in full force after a lengthy absence from the party owing to suspension for supposed disciplinary difficulties. He is hopeful the delegates will accept his candidacy.
