A Premier League player charged with rape won't have his team punish him.

The suspected athlete, who has not been charged and is out on bond, can carry out his professional obligations, including authorized travel, according to the club.

The footballer, who is in his late 20s but cannot be identified for legal reasons, was taken into custody early on July 4 at his North London house after a woman in her 20s reported having been raped.

He was subsequently detained on two further counts involving a different claimed victim before being freed on bail until an August date as police continued their inquiry. He disputes the charges.

"We are aware of the claims being looked into by the authorities at this time, "the team stated in a statement, which The Athletic first reported.

"We can affirm that the footballer, who is free on bail while police investigate the claims, denies them. There are no charges pending, and the player is free to fulfill his professional obligations, including authorized travel. We have adhered to our safeguarding policies and procedures and take our obligations and responsibilities seriously. We will continue to pay close attention to this issue and revisit it if the situation changes."

The athlete was initially detained in connection with a June alleged rape. The alleged dates for the remaining two occurrences range from April to June 2021.

The club last week declined to respond to rumors that it was aware of an accusation against the player from the previous fall.

The Metropolitan Officers said in a statement last week that their investigation was still ongoing: "On July 4, police received a report of a rape allegation involving a woman in her 20s. The alleged rape reportedly took place in June 2022.

"While in detention, he was additionally detained on suspicion of two separate rapes that were allegedly committed against different women in their 20s in April and June of 2021. He was subsequently granted bail and freed with a court appearance in August. Investigations into the events are still ongoing.

On August 5, the Premier League season will begin. The player was also anticipated to represent his nation at the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

The club has said that the accused player, who has not been charged and is on bail, can fulfil his professional commitments - including permitted travel
