Jone Samuelsen, a retired Norwegian footballer, holds the record for the longest headed goal in football. On September 25, 2011, he scored a header 58.13 metres (190 feet 8.583 inches) from goal for ODD Greenland against Tromso IL.
Samuelsen began his professional career in 2001 with FK Haugesund in Norway's first division, and he was a regular in the Haugesund side throughout 2002 and 2003, during which time he also captained the Norwegian Under - 19 international side and collected the 2002-03 U19 fairplay award on behalf of his country. Christian Grindheim, another talented midfielder, was his teammate.
Samuelsen rose to prominence after scoring a header from his own half (into an open goal) against Troms IL on September 25, 2011. The club also intends to submit his achievement to Guinness World Records. The local police measured it at 57.3 metres after the game, and it was later re-measured to 58.13 metres.
During the 2003 season, he was signed by Viking for more than NOK 2 million (£200,000), the club's second highest transfer fee ever paid. He was an instant hit at Viking, and he was called up to the Under - 21 international squad on several occasions, even facing the Brazilian U - 21 squad.
