Lisandro Martinez's £46 million transfer to Manchester United appears to be going through, which should make Harry Maguire glance over his shoulder. Although Erik ten Hag has stated that the Englishman will remain captain, the introduction of Martinez would undoubtedly threaten his position.
When Ajax won the Eredivisie championship the previous year, the Argentine was voted Player of the Year. He has also played in Ten Hag's system for three years, which will be a huge benefit in his fight for a starting position.
Maguire's terrible performance last season is another factor that is supporting Martinez in his quest for regular playing time at Old Trafford. The defender was constantly criticized by commentators; Roy Keane once called his performances "unacceptable."

Once Martinez's presence is announced, Maguire's position will probably be in jeopardy due to his 'unacceptable' results from last season. The Englishman will be mindful of that, especially given that he missed United's first preseason game due to an injury.
