West Ham ready to succeed where PSG failed for Scamacca, as Moyes hedges his bets on Chelsea transfer

West Ham are preparing a sizeable verbal bid to sign PSG target Gianluca Scamacca, though David Moyes won’t let a separate Chelsea transfer go easily, per reports. The Hammers are seeking a reliable centre-forward to provide stiff competition for Michail Antonio. The veteran has worked wonders as the lone striker in recent years, though if West Ham are to continue competing in Europe, they must increase their squad depth. Italy international, Gianluca Scamacca, has emerged as an intriguing option. Reports on Tuesday claimed the Hammers have made contact with Sassuolo who are commanding a hefty fee. £38m was the figure stated, though Fabrizio Romano now claims they want £42m. The Daily Mail stated Sassuolo have rejected an opening bid from PSG. However, despite their wealth, Romano reported the French giant are unwilling to raise their offer and match Sassuolo’s demands. That has opened the door for West Ham who are said to be preparing a verbal bid worth around £33.6m. Whether an offer of that size will be enough to bring Sassuolo to the table, only time will tell. But if West Ham follow in PSG’s footsteps by deciding a move is too costly, Chelsea’s Armando Broja could be targeted instead. Moyes keeping Broja option open The 21-year-old shone on loan at Southampton last term and is seeking assurances over game-time if he remains at Stamford Bridge next season. Broja is claimed to have travelled to Los Angeles to join Chelsea’s pre-season preparations. If his discussions with Chelsea chiefs don’t project a positive outcome, a move away could be explored. In that regard, the Mail put West Ham, Everton and Newcastle among his interested suitors. Broja is reportedly open to joining the Hammers if his time at Chelsea is up. Despite a verbal bid for Scamacca coming, it’s noted West Ham remain firmly in the mix if Broja becomes available. Broja is reportedly valued around the £30m mark by Chelsea who will determine his future at the club in the coming weeks. Broja smarter business than Scamacca? The two strikers would cost a broadly similar fee of between £30m-£40m. However, of the pair, a move for Broja makes the most sense. The Albanian would require no bedding in period having proven himself on the south coast last term. What’s more, he is two years younger. Additionally, the comments of Sassuolo CEO, Giovanni Carnevali, suggest Scamacca is far from the finished article. When referencing Premier League interest in May, he said: “[Scamacca] still needs to improve and perhaps he needs to stay another year here.”

Gianluca Scamacca transfer news: Double-edged sword for Arsenal as club replaces striker but Euro giants join race

Arsenal have been given a boost in their push to sign Sassuolo attacker Gianluca Scamacca, although there is also interest reportedly coming from a European heavyweight. Scamacca enjoyed a deadly campaign in 2021-22, bagging 16 goals and one assist in 38 games. He is now part of Roberto Mancini’s plans for Italy and is also in line for a big summer move.
