Perfect for Postecoglou; Odsonne Edouard can help Celtic’s £2m pursuit

But Edouard Michut doesn’t have to look far to see the benefits of swapping the comfort of the Parc des Princes’ padded seats for the bracing climes of East Glasgow. “I made the decision to leave (Paris Saint-Germain) because, inevitably, not everyone can succeed there,” Odsonne Edouard told L’Equipe in 2019, shortly after joining the Hoops in a club-record £9 million deal. “I made my decision and I don’t regret it. It was a risk in leaving, but it would have been a risk staying, too.” When Edouard joined Crystal Palace last summer, the 23-year-old arrived at Selhurst Park with 179 games, 88 goals and more silverware under his wing than a magpie at a John Lewis sale. Celtic might not have been able to offer a teenage Edouard the chance to train alongside Neymar or Marco Verratti, or those glamorous nights in the latter stages of the Champions League. What Celtic could provide, however, was regular first-team football. Patience, support and a coach willing to build his team around a man who, if he’d stayed in France, would have been lucky to get the odd cameo appearance off the bench in the Coupe de France. Could Edouard Michut follow Odsonne Edouard from PSG to Celtic? During four years in Scotland, Edouard blossomed from a little-known prospect into one of Europe’s most coveted young strikers. Moussa Dembele would undergo a similar transformation, albeit via a spell at Fulham. So Edouard and Dembele are unlikely to be far from Michut thoughts, then, as Celtic prepare a £2 million offer for the France U19 international (Sky Sports). Photo by Anthony Dibon/Icon Sport via Getty Images “Celtic are in advanced talks to sign Edouard Michut,” Fabrizio Romano writes on Twitter. “Paris Saint-Germain are open to letting him go. First proposal to be submitted soon. Celtic bid will be around 2.5 million euros.” Michut is one of the jewels of PSG’s often-undervalued academy. But – as Edouard and Dembele found out, not to mention Kingsley Coman, Mike Maignan, Christopher Nkunku and Moussa Diaby – potential doesn’t always translate into first-team opportunities at a club who’s first response to any trouble during the QSI era has been to splash the cash and tear open their wallet. Is Michut the latest Paris Saint-Germain starlet to leave? PSG fought off Barcelona and Manchester City while tying ‘the new Verratti’ to a new contract in 2020 (Daily Mail). Since then, he’s played just an hour of Ligue 1 football. Michut’s hopes of a larger role under Christophe Galtier appear to have gone up in smoke too, with Renato Sanches expected to join Vitinha in Paris. “He already had a way of thinking about the game that the others didn’t have,” Michut’s former coach Jordy Cabarrecq tells Goal. “And a quick understanding of instructions. “He always had a good first touch. He moved in areas where he could touch the ball. But (he also has) an ability to eliminate and break lines.” Cabarreq certainly paints the picture of a midfielder tailor-made for ‘Ange-ball’. A tempo-setting, string-pulling orchestrator capable of controlling play with a rhythmic drum-beat. One who, if he knows what’s good for him, will soon become the third PSG academy graduate to don green-and-white since 2016.
