Students of Adventist Senior High School in Bantama in the Ashanti Region have revealed that they go to the canteen for breakfast with their own sugar, bread and milk.
According to the students, they are no longer served a complete meal when dining.
On Wednesday July 13, 2022, some students of the school bemoaned the inability of the authorities to serve them complete meals when they spoke to Class FM's Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Elisha Adarkwah.
One student said: “For example, breakfast doesn't have sugar, they just add salt, so we were asked to bring our own sugar and bread or any other thing you would like to take with you because they can't. provide us with anything else.
"We were told for lunch that they don't have anything to supply if, it's kenkey, you have to bring your own shito, even though his Gabeans [Gari and beans] only provide beans without oil." so we must take our own gari.'
She urged the government to help the students.
“I am asking the government to come to our aid, we are suffering. My stomach hurts because there is no money to feed,” said the student.
One student noted that, “There was no sugar in that brownie we had in the morning. You have to provide the sugar yourself. As for bread, since the second semester of form 1, he has not served us bread.
“Some parents do not provide food to their wards knowing that they are being fed in the canteen, but that is not the case. They [school authorities] say that once they run out of food, they will have to go to other schools for more."
Another female student also said, “I only have 10 GHS left because of the poor quality of the meals we serve, I was shopping for food.
“Yesterday the kenkey we ate gave me the run around.
The students therefore called on the government to supply food to the schools to ease the impact on them.
