The UN Ambassador for Peace in Ghana, Dr. Samuel Ben Owusu, has called on the government to invest more in agriculture after securing funds from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He said this will bring more money to Ghana apart from other avenues the country generates revenue from.

He recalled that during the government of former president Dr. Kwame Nkrumaha initiated national agriculture where he engaged more farmers at the community level to grow more food.

Although observing “Planting for Food and Jobs” as a good initiative, Amb. Samuel Owusu was convinced that if the government encourages a lot of farmers to grow grains in all communities, there will be enough food for the people, jobs and boost the economy.

In an interview Dr. Samuel Owusu said, "Government should invest some of the IMF money in commercial production or systems, especially agriculture."

He continued: "Dr. Kwame Nkrumah introduced state agriculture, I appeal to the president to send us back to state agriculture. Let's do community farming and take two years. Let's grow corn everywhere, in all villages, cities, regions. Russia and Ukraine grow wheat so that they supply the whole world with wheat.'

Dr. Samuel Owusu stated, “Growing for food and jobs is a very powerful initiative, let's scale it up, the president must focus on it, use maize, let's grow it everywhere and within a short time we can supply maize to the whole of Africa or even the whole world and we can make a lot of money. We can grow tomatoes and cassava and we will make money from it. The money some countries make from cassava alone is staggering, we don't have gold and we also farm less. Let's do commercial farming. I'm asking the president to bring us back to state agriculture, community farming."

He added that "With this IMF money, we will only get some money which may not be enough, the government should invest one million dollars of what goes to the IMF in agriculture. For young people who are unemployed, they should be employed to they worked for three to four hours every morning to plant food and get allowance and after morning work they can go do other things. I am not influenced by any political party but we are all looking for the welfare of the country".
