In the game of football, player transfers between clubs are a likely occurrence throughout both the winter and summer transfer windows, with a set asking price serving as the starting point for discussions.

Players are tagged over time based on their age and current run of form, which are mostly taken into account by the two parties concerned.

The asking price of some players, who had been given very high asking prices after moving to other clubs where they did not necessarily find the grass to be greener on the other side, was substantially reduced as a result of their failure to live up to expectations.

This sparked an examination of five particular players who fall within that group and have been impacted:

Harry Maguire, an England international, was valued at €80 million in 2019 when he transferred from Leicester City to Manchester United; his current value is now estimated to be €36 million in 2022.

Belgian international Romelu Lukaku's transfer from Inter Milan to Chelsea in 2021 was estimated at €100 million; his current value in 2022 is €63 million.

- Brazilian international Philippe Coutinho, whose current value is €18 million in 2022, was valued at €120 million in 2018 when he moved from Liverpool to Barcelona.

- Nicolas Pepe, an international for Ivory Coast, was transferred from LOSC Lille to Arsenal in 2019 and was valued at €72 million at the time. His value is currently estimated to be €22 million in 2022.

- Spanish shot-stopper Kepa Arizaballaga, who moved from Athletic club to Chelsea in 2018, had a value estimated at €72 million; his current value is estimated to be €9 million in 2022.

Chelsea and Barcelona are in negotiations over the club captain of Chelsea, Cesar Azpilicueta. In a few months, the Spaniard will turn 33 and begin the latter phase of his great career.

He has been making references to going home to finish off his playing career there as a result. He has one year left on his Chelsea contract and will be free to go if he is not traded this summer. The Blues will soon need to decide what to do with him as a result.

The defender has already reached a personal agreement on a transfer to Camp Nou. The Spanish team has made him a two-year deal with an additional one-year option.

To make the transfer happen, they will need to come to an agreement with Chelsea.

Marcos Alonso is attempting to join Cesar Azpilicueta in making a move to Barcelona. For the left-back, however, nothing further has been decided as of yet. Before letting Azpilicueta go, Chelsea has stated that they want to find a successor for him. However, they haven't yet been associated with any full-backs.
