Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor complained about the strong desire of politicians to enrich themselves.

Striving to see his society progress through free will, sacrifice and dedication is what he says drew him into politics.

However, during an interview on TV3's New Day program on Thursday July 14, monitored by Modernghana News, he confirmed that politicians these days only talk and dream of wealth and power at any cost without thinking about the progress of the society.

“I didn't go into politics to make money. I just believed that there was some mission for me to pursue to improve many of our society.

"The monetization of politics these days, people are talking so much money these days that it looks like people are going into politics to make money," he complains.

Apart from his call for patriotism in politics, the statesman further claimed that the NPP is a party that has a remarkable track record of addressing hardships through social intervention programmes.

Kufuor cited education, health and delivery of justice as areas where the NPP government always focuses on improving the living standards of Ghanaians.

“There is a general belief and commitment that the party is a party of destiny, destined to be a party that will help develop the nation of Ghana into a serious wealth-creating society, including deep social meaning.

“It was shown when we were given a chance in terms of making necessary social interventions such as education, health care, justice and equity, like the repeal of the criminal defamation law, to allow people to think and speak and also to demand leadership accountability. at the same time also to dwell in people with that sense of civic responsibility,” he said.

The former president added: "So it's there within the party, It's like because of the current challenges, sometimes we seem to lose direction, but when you talk to the rank and file in many ways, they are ready to regain the trajectory, as I said before."
