Chelsea have completed their second new signing under the new ownership of Boehly. Chelsea announced the signing of Sterling from Manchester City a few days ago, making him the first signing of the Bohely era.
Koulibaly, Chelsea's second signing of the new era, has completed his medicals. Chelsea and Napoli have reached an agreement on the transfer.
Chelsea's signing of Koulibaly will be a wise investment. Rudiger, Chelsea's best defensive player last season, has joined Real Madrid. He announced at the end of Chelsea's final game of the season, against Watford, that it was his final game for the club.
As a result of Rudiger's departure, Chelsea needed to sign another defender to replace him, and they did so by signing Koulibaly.
Rudiger and Koulibaly have some similarities in their styles of play, despite the fact that they are both defenders. Three of these similarities are:
1. assertiveness
Rudiger and Koulibaly are both aggressive defenders who aren't afraid to make hard tackles. Strikers have nightmares about them. Despite the fact that they are both aggressive players, they maintain their cool under pressure.
2. Commanding Presence
Rudiger was in charge of the defense line at Chelsea. He directs and positions the Defenders while attacking and defending.
The same can be said for Koulibaly, whose commanding skills at Napoli's back line have been a major reason for the team's solid defense.
3. Capability to Head
Rudiger and Koulibaly take advantage of their heights both defensively and offensively.
When Napoli or Chelsea are called upon to defend a corner kick, Rudiger for Chelsea and Koulibaly for Napoli are always in charge of clearing the ball out of the danger zone, taking advantage of their tall stature.
When both teams get a corner kick, Rudiger and Koulibaly pose a threat to the opposing team because they can easily score by heading if they are not properly marked by the opposing players.
