Former Deputy Minister of Information Felix Kwakye Ofosu has attacked Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He said the vice president's claims described as a "quadruple whammy" are just flat out lies and comical.

“The Vice President's claims are a combination of outright lies and comic performance. In any self-respecting jurisdiction, he will be long out of office after such a disastrous display of appalling incompetence. After overseeing the collapse of the Ghanaian economy, he should be long gone as head of the economic management team.

“He should not come and insult the suffering of Ghanaians with such a comical speech. There is no serious, sane, knowledgeable financial and economic analyst who would accept these comical claims,” said Felix Ofosu Kwakye in an interview with Citi News.

On Thursday, July 14, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia speaking at an event held at the Accra Business School where he explained the ruling government's decision to ask the IMF for financial assistance.

Dr. Bawumia placed some blame on the former John Dramani Mahama-led government, but said Covid-19, the clean-up of the financial sector, debt financing of the energy sector and the Russia-Ukraine war were responsible for the economic problems facing the country.

“Given the challenges of accessing the capital market, balance of payments support was needed to bridge this financial gap, stabilize the economy and create space for structural reforms to be implemented and debt sustainability restored, and this is indeed why Ghana had to go to the IMF.

“I should note again that Ghana has been dealt a quadruple blow. Energy sector payment for excess capacity. Cleaning up the banking sector, Covid-19 and the Russian-Ukrainian war. If you take away this quadruple blow, Ghana will not go to the IMF,” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia stressed H.E.

He further called on Ghanaians to prepare for worse times ahead as his government works to turn things around.
