The Minority in Parliament has criticised Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for attributing a portion of Ghana's present economic difficulties to the former administration.
The caucus maintains that Dr. Bawumia has the moral authority to criticise the current administration, which has continuously mishandled the country's economy, for the actions of the former John Mahama administration.
The Vice President identified four elements on Thursday that, in his opinion, led Ghana to request financial aid from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Vice President remarked that although attributing 50% to outside factors—the Russia-Ukraine war and Covid-19—the previous administration's actions also contributed to Ghana's economic troubles.
However, in response to this, the Vice President and his government were encouraged by the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament to take responsibility for their mismanagement.
In an interview with journalists on Friday, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson emphasised that if the Akufo-Addo administration keeps blaming others for its shortcomings, no one will gain.
"International circumstances or policies that they inherited cannot ever be blamed for the mess we are in today. This government has shown itself to be expensive, unreliable, and ineffective.
We will not tolerate the way our Vice President is attempting to transfer blame, therefore I want to implore him to just accept it. He has damaged us. He should just accept it, plain and simple, since he is to blame for the mess we are in," he insisted.
Additionally, Dr. Forson claimed that the Vice President lacks credibility.
He also cited the government's unchecked thirst for borrowing and the granting of tax exemptions as reasons for the status of the economy.
As the leader of our Economic Management Team, I believe our vice president has failed. In a very poor manner, he has handled the economic crisis. He was emphatic in his assessment of his economic management.
