Full academic work will resume on July 18th - GES.
According to the Ghana Education Service (GES), academic work in various pre-tertiary institutions will resume fully on Monday, July 18, 2022.
It will be remembered that on July 4, four pre-tertiary teacher unions declared an indefinite strike action in response to the government's failure to pay the 20% Cost Of Living Allowance (COLA) they were demanding.
Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Coalition of Concerned Teachers Ghana (CCT), and Teachers and Educational Workers Union were the unions (TEWU).
However, after several crunch meetings with the government, an agreement was reached on July 14 for a 15% (of base pay) COLA to be paid to all public sector workers effective July 1.
This has led to calm on the labour front with the pre-tertiary unions and other unions with similar demands calling off their strike action.
Reacting to the development, GES in a Facebook post tasked all regional and district directors of education to ensure that academic activities return in full swing on July 18.
“Management has taken note of the successful completion of negotiations between GoG and Organised Labour on the Cost of Living Allowance( COLA) leading to the call- off of the strike by the Pre Tertiary Education workers Union.
“Management therefore informs all Regional and District Directors of Education to ensure both teaching and non teaching staff of the Service return to school on Monday 18th July 2022 to start full academic work,” the post read.

The arrival of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) General Secretary, John Boadu, at the Accra Sports Stadium, the venue for the party's 2022 National Delegate Conference, was met with applause.
A supporter of John Boadu, who is running for re-election in the party, got lucky when she was sprayed with hundreds of cedi notes while serenading him.
A social media video shows a young lady dressed in Kente clothing praising Boadu for his NPP achievements.
While she was praising him, NPP members, most likely including the General Secretary, began showering her with cash.
“… the honourable John Boadu, the wise man. You are good at your job. May the Almighty God bless you; may He take care of you, help and support you. Today, we are saying that we are going to retain you in your position, so that ‘Break the Eight’ will become a reality,” the young poet said in Twi.
Meanwhile, pollster Benjamin Emmanuel Ephson has predicted that the race for the General Sectary position of the NPP will be very close.
Ben Ephson said that John Boadu will give his close contender, Justin Kodua Frimpong, a run for his money.
Aside from John Boadu and Kodua Frimpong, the other candidates for the position include Iddrisu Musah, Ramseyer Ahmed Agyeman-Prempeh and Frederick Opare Ansah.
