Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, candidate for national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is certain he would prevail in the next election with more than half of the ballots still to be cast.
He admits that the contest will be quite close, but he believes that the delegates will choose him because of his message of unity and the skills he has demonstrated over the years.
Ameyaw Akumfi expressed optimism, saying, "I'm hopeful of winning with over 50% of the votes after the elections." The race will be extremely close.
There have been reports of vote buying, but in response, he stated that he does not have the funds to do so.
He claimed to be unaware of such rumors, but added that even if they are accurate, he is confident that NPP delegates won't accept gifts in exchange for ineptitude.

Ghanaian academic and politician Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi was born on August 21, 1945, in Techiman, Brong Ahafo Region. Ameyaw-Akumfi served as the government of John Agyekum Kufour's minister of education.
Ameyaw-Akumfi enrolled at the University of Ghana in 1965, leaving in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a Master's in the same subject the following year. He moved to the United States in 1970 to study zoology at the University of Michigan, where he received his PhD in 1972.
