Due to the COLA strike, GES must postpone their vacation by two weeks.

Due to the COLA strike, which lasted around 10 days, the Ghana Education Service (GES) must begin thinking about the potential of shifting the vacation day for term two from August 11 to September 1.

According to the current calendar, schools began their second terms on May 10 and are scheduled to close on August 11, 2022. Without an extension of the term calendar, learners would have lost two weeks of contact time if the GES maintains the current calendar.

Should the GES extend the calendar by two weeks, schools would resume classes on September 13, 2022, after an 11-day break.

Thus, students and teachers would have spent a total of 10 days at home during the COLA strike period and the final 11 days after the start of the summer break on September 1. Teachers would concur that such a choice will be just throughout this crucial period.

The second term's extension would make it possible to accommodate the time lost between July 4 and July 14. GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT-GH, and TEWU began a COLA strike that lasted for about two weeks.

The administrators of pre-tertiary education should think carefully about adding about two weeks to the second term of the academic year for public schools. The term's remaining themes will be covered by the teachers with the aid of this.

While we are pleased that the government has been able to address the strike by providing teachers and all public sector employees with a 15 percent COLA, teachers and non-teaching staff should not object or have issues with being asked to extend the term by an additional 2 weeks as it has resulted in learning loss for schoolchildren as a result of COVID-19.

It is hoped that the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education will inform interested parties about whether or not they have extended the deadline by 14 days in the coming days.

Because to the COLA strike, GES must postpone their vacation by two weeks. Agree or Disagree? Share your opinions on the article.
